Roofs in George Town: What to Know

Water dripping through the ceiling of a George Town shophouse or terrace after an afternoon downpour? On tiled roofs the cause is often a cracked tile, crumbling ridge mortar or a choked valley gutter. Send photos of the roof and the ceiling stain on WhatsApp and we will give you a first estimate before a free on-site inspection.

Much of George Town is pre-war shophouses with clay tile roofs sitting on timber rafters. Salt air from the sea and heavy afternoon rain wear down ridge mortar, tiles and the shared gutters that run between neighbouring roofs.

FAQ

Roof Leak Repair FAQ

Short answers on prices, units and scope of work.

My shophouse shares a valley gutter with the next unit. Can you fix only my side?
Yes. We inspect the shared gutter first and repair the leaking section on your side. If the source is on the neighbour's roof, we will tell you so you can sort it out with them.
How much does tile roof repair on a shophouse cost?
Tile roof repair starts from RM200 per job, usually in the RM200–RM800 range depending on how much is damaged. If the timber rafters have rotted we will say so and give an exact quote after the inspection.
